Signs of hearing loss in children

Your child may have a hearing loss if they:

  • Are slow to learn to talk, or are not clear when they speak
  • Do not reply when you call them
  • Talk very loudly
  • Ask you to repeat yourself or respond inappropriately to questions
  • Turn up the volume of the television to a very high level
  • Has difficulty locating sounds
  • Has frequent ear infections, head colds and running nose.

Auditone Hearing offers a range of tests for children attending our clinic.

Subjective Hearing Tests

  • Distraction Test
  • Visual Reinforced Audiometry
  • Play Audiometry
  • Pure Tone Audiometry
  • Speech Audiometry

Objective Hearing Tests

  • Tympanometry
  • Acoustic Reflex Testing
  • Otoacoustic Emission Testing

Parents now realise the importance of getting their children’s hearing tested by professional audiologists. This is especially important around the time that the child starts in school. Often unilateral or mild hearing losses are not properly identified until seen by an audiologist. Temporary hearing losses due to ear wax build up or glue ear can be sorted very quickly.
